    Amina Backboxes

For new construction applications or other installations where a backbox is desired or required, Amina offers two different models of backboxes. The drywall backboxes provide a convenient method of installation when walls are not yet existing. The solid wall backbox is intended for block and solid wall structures where a suitable wallboard does not exist for direct mounting of an Amina AIWX Series speaker panel.

Standard Drywall Backbox (BACKBOX-FS)

The BACKBOX-FS is a lightweight aluminum box complete with Acoustiblok® insulation and is suitable for 1/2" or 5/8" thick wallboard. The box mounts directly to the wallboard, or can be attached to studwork. This new box is also recommended primarily for use in ceilings where sound transmission into other rooms could be an issue. The system can also be used in stud walls of cavity depth 3in. or greater.

This new lightweight product delivers major reductions from 15dB in noise levels and comprises of a one-piece, robust, Aluminium frame lined with special 1/8" (3mm) acoustic blocking material. It has been designed for zero maintenance and easy installation.

The installation process is similar to standard Amina Speakers: a hole is cut in the plasterboard and the box is placed inside the cavity with each end of the box extending under the plasterboard. Standard drywall screws are used to secure the box to the plasterboard. The speakers are then mounted on to the box, using the location lips, secured and plastered over as usual.

Solid Wall Backbox (BACKBOX-SW)

Following feedback from customers Amina have significantly redesigned the Solid Wall Back Box to make it easier and more flexible to install. There are three major changes.

a) The box is now much thinner with a depth of 1 5/8" (42mm) - down from 3" (75mm). This makes the product particularly suitable for 4" (100mm) brickwork and reduces the amount work required and material to be removed during install.

b) The flanges on the front of the box have been removed to make it easier to locate with respect to the final plaster surface. This will also enable a better finish across the speaker/wall boundary. The backbox is
now tray shaped, but has the same “submerged” footprint as before.

c) Predrilled location slots have been introduced on the back of the box to make it easier for installers to accurately position and fix. All other aspects of the product remain unchanged.
